Karla Sue (Brown) Melby, 46, died at the Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa on Dec. 17, 2018.

She was born on April 27, 1972 to Neil and Janelle (Johnson) Brown in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School with the class of 1990.

After high school, Karla attended Iowa Western Community College. Karla married Travis Melby on April 17, 2004 at the Solider Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa.

Karla worked as a CNA for about 15 years at various places including Harrison County Home Health and Elmwood Nursing Home.

She loved crafts, especially wedding crafts. She made her own wedding bouquet and cake. She enjoyed baking and making candy. Karla treasured spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Karla is survived by her husband, Travis Melby of Moorhead, Iowa; daughter, Rebecca Melby of Missouri Valley, Iowa; parents, Neil and Janelle Brown of Woodbine, Iowa; two brothers and sister-in-law, Kurt Brown and Katie Pederson and Kevin Brown, both of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.  

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2018 at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa.

Pastor Marsha Smith was the celebrant of the service. Musical selections were “Amazed” by Lonestar. This was the song Travis sang for her at their wedding. Other songs included “Sissy’s Song” by Alan Jackson and “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe.

Honorary pall bearers were Kail Brown, Kameron Brown, Kinze Brown and Dalton Frink. Pall bearers were Kevin Brown, Kurt Brown, Neil Brown, Tim Funderman, Steve Lax and Aaron Perkins. Her final resting place is at the Solider Lutheran Cemetery in Soldier.

Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of the arrangements.
