Marva Lea Pierson passed away at Jenny Ed Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the age of 77 years.
Marva was born on August 10, 1942 to her parents, Harold Dean and Julia Maxine (Mefferd) Jenkins in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was raised all her life in Woodbine, Iowa.
Marva graduated from Woodbine High School in Woodbine, Iowa. Her favorite subjects were English and bookkeeping and attending Glee Club. She married Norman Pierson on May 5, 1990, and moved to Neola, Iowa and lived there for 25 years before moving to Council Bluffs for a year and back to Woodbine, Iowa.
Her memories with him included Norman playing the organ for her, taking drives and going to church and the Temple.
Marva had attended one year of nursing as well as receiving various certificates in health care.
Her work history included working as an excellent typist at North Western Bell in Omaha, Neb., typing at 95 words per minute and no errors. She worked for 14 years before retiring as a home health aide; worked at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home; as well as other medical positions within Harrison County, Iowa.
When asked what her favorite job was, her reply was, “home care for the elderly."
Marva belonged to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints being baptized in 1954 at the age of 12 and then baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Some of her favorite things to do were caring for others, visiting with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as gardening for her church and her home. She believed that trying to be like Jesus and following all His ways, was worth striving for in life. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm118:24.
Marva is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Harold Pierson; parents, Harold Dean and Julia Maxine (Mefferd) Jenkins; sister Connie Jo (Jenkins) Peterson and daughter, Gaye Lynn Hanson.
Survivors include Jeffrey Harold Jenkins and wife Kathy, of Welch, Oklahoma; Lori Jean (Hanson) Hast and husband James, of Minden, Iowa; David Allen Hanson and wife Amy, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Christine Kay (Hanson) Thailing, of Omaha, Nebraska; Nancy Kay (Jenkins) Marshall and husband Paul, of Woodbine, Iowa; Dan Peterson husband of Connie Jo (Jenkins) Peterson, of Woodbine, Iowa; many grandkids and many great-grandkids.
Visitation was held January 19, 2020 at the Logan Memorial Chapel, Logan, Iowa. Funeral services were held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Logan with Bishop Bendorf officiating.
Pianists were Sister Hussing and Sister Dolan. Music selections were “We Shall Behold Him” and “I Can Only Imagine”. Brother Seeley sang “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.
Congressional hymns were “Jesus Loves Me” and “God Be With You Till We Meet Again”. Bishop Bendorf read Prayer, Brother Yates did the reading of obituary, Sister Hast read testimony, Brother Garnder spoke and Brother Cortez read closing prayer.
Casket bearers were Austin Hast, Nick Leuschen, Bret Richardson, Christian Raya, Jason Peterseon and Tim Marshall.
Interment was held at the Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine, Iowa immediately following the services.
