Vern William Foutch, 81, died on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine.

He was born February 11, 1938, at his home near Dunlap, Iowa, to Donald Raymond and Lillian Beulah (Mether) Foutch.

Shortly after his birth, the family moved to the farm east of Woodbine where he lived until moving into Woodbine in 2001.

Vern attended Douglas Hill Country School and was a 1956 graduate of Woodbine High School. He participated in 4-H, basketball and vocal music activities while he was in high school.

Vern then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1960, with a degree in Farm Operations. While he attended ISU, he was involved in their vocal music program, and he met the accompanist, Nancy Jo Corriell.

The couple were later married in West Liberty, Iowa on December 2, 1961.

Vern served in the Air National Guard from September 1960 until September 1966. He was also one of the original Noteables from 1983 to 2017.

Vern was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served on many committees and was a certified lay speaker. He was also a member of the Harrison County Farm Bureau, Extension Council, Senior Center Board, and Kiwanis.

Vern was also a regular blood donor. Vern farmed the family farm from the time he was married until he entered the Rose Vista Nursing Home 23 months ago. He enjoyed woodworking, Ham Radio operations, and flying his two airplanes, a Beechcraft Bonanza and a Cessna. Vern and Nancy enjoyed traveling, especially to Russia and China.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Donald Robert Foutch; and grandson, Maxwell Birgen Foutch.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Foutch of Woodbine, Iowa; three sons, Scott Alan Foutch and his wife Michelle of Weston, Missouri, and their children, Kaylee and Ryan; Shawn Lester Foutch and his wife Meg of Johnston, Iowa, and their children Jacob, Abigail, and Elizabeth; Steven Daniel Foutch and his wife Mary Jane of Kansas City, Missouri and their children Jackson and Honor; sister, Catherine and her husband Jerry Maycook of Roanoke, Virginia; brother-in-law, Wayne Corriell and his wife Pat of Atalissa, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine.

Jim Anderson and Beth Fouts were the officiants of the service. Musicians were Dan McElwain, Don Aronson, Sue Benedickt, Mike Liljedahl and The Noteables.

The musical selections were, "Bells of Iowa State", "Family of God", "In My Father’s House", "The Lord’s Prayer" and "Irish Blessing."

Pallbearers were Jacob Foutch, Jackson Foutch, Bob Chambers, Jim Colwell, Harley Mether and Dwight Mills. Military honors were held at the church by the Woodbine American Legion Post #143. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of arrangements.
