Linda McCann, an Iowa author with 12 published books, gave a presentation at the Woodbine Carnegie Public Library October 23 where she talked about her new book titled “Prisoners of War in Iowa.”
During the presentation, McCann talked about the two main camps in Algona and Clarinda and the other branch camps throughout Iowa during World War II.
She went through the timeline of the years the Prisoners of War (POWs) were in the camp and the conditions they worked in.
She explained some of the POW experiences through the eyes of those who knew them personally or worked with them. Talking to these individuals was part of the research McCann did for writing this new book. The presentation lasted a little over an hour.
