The Logan Chamber of Commerce is switching things up a bit as members plan this year’s Christmas celebration
This year, the group’s annual Shiverfest will move from the downtown area to the Logan Community Center said Nikki Allen, chamber board member.
"It used to be more of a kickoff to the Christmas season for businesses," Allen said.
But, with less retail businesses and lower attendance in recent years, Allen said chamber members wanted to bring new life to the event, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Dec. 18, at the Logan Community Center.
Even with the changes, the holiday spirit will be in full swing, Allen said.
The evening’s activities will include a soup supper sponsored by the Boy Scouts, a cookie walk and a visit from Santa.
"We want people to come, enjoy supper, have a good time and bring the kids to see Santa," Allen said.
In addition to sharing their gift list, children can have their photo taken with Santa. They can then join their family or friends at a nearby booth for a fun group photo, courtesy of Becky Colwell.
Allen also hopes a craft area can be set up, although plans for that have not been finalized.
Shiverfest has been going on for about 10 or 15 years and activities have changed over the years, Allen said. She hopes the changes this year will draw a good crowd.
"It’s a good way to get together and celebrate the Christmas holiday," Allen said.
The cookie walk with start at 6:30 p.m. Those wanting to participate are asked to bring two dozen cookies and pay $5.
While it was moved from the business district, area retailers are still participating in this year’s Shiverfest.
Earlier this month, the chamber began its Christmas scratch off ticket promotion, which will run through Friday Dec. 16. Businesses participating in the promotion will hand out tickets to customers making purchases. Prizes include 10 turkeys, Logan Dollars and gift certificates.
Non-winning customer can sign the back of the ticket and deposit it into the grand prize drawing box at area stores for a chance to win an Amazon Echo, which will be given away during Shiverfest.
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan will have a living nativity as part of Shiverfest from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the church, 311 E. 6th St.
