LOGAN — During the Logan-Magnolia School Band Appreciation Night earlier this month, a major announcement was made.
The Lo-Ma Concert Band has been selected to perform at the 2020 Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) Conference on Saturday, May 16 at the Grand Ballroom of the Des Moines Marriott Downtown.
An honor such as this one is huge for the District. One of the main reasons: it is the first time in the School’s history the Band will represent Class 1A at the IBA Conference.
“It is absolutely a state title for us,” said Alex Albertson, Band director. “We could absolutely put that we are a state championship band program, and it would be accurate.”
The Band started practicing for the auditions back in September 2019 and continued to practice throughout the first semester.
Sometimes, it is a “grind,” Albertson said of the day-to-day process of preparing for not only for the IBA audition but also practicing in general for sporting events and concerts.
But the way he helps the kids stay motivated is to come in every day ready to go and energetic.
