Robert “Bob” Nuzum was born July 16, 1929, to Howard and Beatrice (Coate) Nuzum in Pisgah, IA. He died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 83 years, nine months, and eight days. Bob attended Moorhead Country School. Bob married Nettie Lantz on February 1, 1951, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Dunlap. The couple farmed west of Dunlap and Bob worked for Park Moorhead in Moorhead and Byron Edmonds in Pisgah. The family moved to a farm west of Woodbine and then moved into Woodbine in 1978. Bob worked for the Harrison County Road Department for 20 years. Bob & Nettie also took care of the Woodland Camp in Little Sioux during the winters.
Bob and Nettie enjoyed dancing. They also loved to camp, fish, and play cards. They especially enjoyed their grandchildren and the two neighbor girls.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Charlotte Cox; son Brian Nuzum; two granddaughters, Lorraine Cox and Eileen Nuzum; two sisters, Colleen Martin Mehring and Shirley Nuzum; and brothers, Gary, Leo, and Kenneth Nuzum. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Nettie Nuzum of Woodbine, IA; seven children, Jim Nuzum of Woodbine, IA, Rosella Shelley of Kimballton, IA, Roger Nuzum of Audubon, IA, Rita (Walter) Shumate of Dunlap, IA, Reta (Tom) Crampton of Vail, IA, Cheryl (Bryan) Krueger and Gale (Teresa) Nuzum all of Omaha, NE; son-in-law, Ron Cox of Woodbine, IA; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 11 siblings, Bonita (William) Martin of Council Bluffs, IA, Alan “Jerry” (Joyce) Nuzum of Alma, WI, Jack (Shirley) Nuzum of Williston, ND, Darlene (Wilbur) Moore of Moorhead, IA, Jo Ann Runyan of Omaha, NE, Carol Sue Nuzum of Sioux City, IA, Barbara (Rex) Hargroves of Holstein, IA, Dale Nuzum of LeMars, IA, Joyce (Gary) Williams of Merrill, IA, Patricia (Ronnie) Johnson of Paulina, IA, Diane Oliver and special friend Bob of Luverne, MN; and many other family and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. The clergy was Rev. Carla Johnsen. The recorded musical selections were: Precious Memories, Daddy’s Hands and Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. The pall bearers were: Jesse Hardy, Brian “Barney” Jensen, Bruce Williams, Marvin Kelley, Loyd “Tip” Stevens and Steve Williams. The final resting place is at the Woodbine Cemetery.
Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of the arrangements.
